A community service: ChicagoIX

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Hello!

At Atlantic Metro Communications we share the feeling that we’re all in this together. The principals of AMC also own a few other businesses, one of which, Metro Xchanges, an Illinois based non-profit, is giving back to the Internet community we helped co-create by operating Chicago’s only non-profit Internet eXchange Point (IXP); ChIX. Today we announce, in a joint partnership with Tiscali International Network for an additional offering to allow more community members to interconnect to ChIX. Tiscali operates one of the largest international IP and MPLS network and has leveraged their position in the business world to allow remote peering participants to connect to the ChIX.

Listed below is the official press release on this great new offering by Tiscali and Metro Xchanges/ChIX!

TISCALI INTERNATIONAL’S (TINet) WORLD-CLASS REMOTE PEERING SOLUTIONS PROVIDE NETWORKS ACCESS TO THE CHICAGO IX (ChIX)

Milan, Italy and Chicago, IL USA, September 23, 2008:  Tiscali International Network (TINet), the world’s only carrier exclusively dedicated to the wholesale IP-MPLS market, and The Chicago IX (ChIX), the first non-profit Internet Exchange platform operating in Chicago, Illinois, today announced that TINet’s Remote Peering solutions are now available to the ChIX member community.  This groundbreaking peering arrangement will open up TINet’s Remote Peering Solutions to an anxious new market segment and further solidify the Chicago IX’s role as a key Internet exchange Point in the Mid-West.

TINet’s Remote Peering product offer customers a variety of choices that include point-to-point and point-to-multipoint solutions as well as dedicated bandwidth and bandwidth on-demand options.  These IP ‘flavours’ are specifically engineered to be optimized over TINet’s global MPLS network where latency is guaranteed and Class of Service (CoS) is monitored and enforced through their world-class 24×7 pro-active monitoring and help desk.

The ChIX, a non-profit platform, is a unique service model.  ChIX is managed and delivered by some of the leading minds in the industry and provides the IP community with a network neutral platform focused on providing quality of service while simultaneously focused on creating a community that works together.

“TINet is an ideal partner who brings a valuable product and solution to the ChIX community,” commented James Cornman, Chief Technical Officer of Metro Xchanges, the managing company of the ChIX.  “To enable fast, simple, Ethernet connectivity to a global leader providing quality MPLS solutions is a value add, not only to members of the ChIX, but any network provider looking to enter the Chicago market.”

“The ChIX offers TINet a unique experience to offer our quality class of service, products and solutions to a sophisticated market-place,” added Paolo Gambini, CMO of Tiscali International Network.  “We see this as an opportunity to expand our reach, while participating in ground-breaking chance to be part of a growing community.”

The ChIX platform was made possible by donations from Atlantic Metro Communications, Steadfast Networks, Bit Gravity, Townsend Asset Group, James Cornman and Stephen Klenert.  The platform is located at 350 East Cermak Road, Suite 240 in Chicago, Illinois.

TMCnet quotes AMC on Creative Managed VoIP Services, Solutions

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

The increased functionality of VoIP over traditional phone systems is well-known, and with companies dedicating themselves exclusively to improving IP telephony call quality, more and more businesses are moving away from legacy systems.

Yet for some enterprises, such as calling card companies or wholesale voice providers, who own legacy equipment that keeps their costs low, only an affordable SIP-to-TDM platform makes business sense, experts say.

One company that offers a full suite of voice services, including that critical platform, is newly formed Atlantic Metro Communications, a Manhattan-based group led by Chief Executive Officer Stephen M. Klenert and Chief Technical Officer James H. Cornman.

According to Klenert, many enterprise companies have legacy PBXs which only support T1s.
